I’ve always wanted a small wedding

Something intimate, romantic, something just for the love of my life and maybe our nearest and dearest to celebrate our joy as we begin the rest our lives together. I didn’t want a spectacle, I didn’t want an event, I didn’t want a big, splashy celebration where I felt like I was in a fishbowl…I just wanted the love of my life, and beautiful, romantic setting as we pledged to love and honor each other til death do we part.

The people responsible for bringing us into this world wanted more.

No matter how diplomatically, bluntly, or sweetly I stated my preferences–the guest list they had in mind never dropped below 300. I suppose I shouldn’t have been so surprised given their initial ask was 657–and plus ones.

I’ve always been a fan of beginning as I mean to go on

And I flat out refuse to begin my married life at the center of a circus where ironically, on a day that is supposed to be about me, my fiance, and the start of our lives together, my own wishes and desires are completely disregarded and I’m sidelined in favor of putting on the kind of pageant spectacle that I hate for people I’ve never seen before and will probably never see again. I started talking to James about eloping and holding a big wedding celebration later for anyone who wanted to show, that way our loved ones could still celebrate with us. And finally…

He said YES!

I think the elation I’m feeling right now is possibly a shadow of what he felt when I agreed to marry him, but I have to admit I feel pretty damn giddy 🙂 I’m on cloud nine. James surprised me with a cruise at the start of September, and while we were there, let me know he was willing to elope–not just willing, he wanted to. My favorite way to vacation, my dearest wish in recent times, and the man of my dreams gave them both to me without hesitation. Is it any wonder I love the pants off that man?

PS: Dress shopping has gone VERY well! I’ve narrowed it down to 3 dresses, and I’ll pick THE dress after I try them on later this week.
